New Facebook Insights Dashboard

FB Insight Treasure ChestThe Facebook fan page is on its way to becoming a top new advertising platform. After all, Facebook is now officially the most popular U.S. website according to data from Hitwise analytics. Facebook has gone a long way in making its fan pages more flexible as far as design and content is concerned, allowing for custom tabs that look brand-spankingly out of this world. Avast, ye hearties, now they’ve updated Insights, a free service similar to web analytics that is available for everyone who has a fan page to track the progress of it.

The new and improved Insights dashboard was made live just recently to page admins. (more…)

How to setup SMS (Texting) to “like” a Facebook fan page!

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

What? You can do that???
That’s the usual response we get when we tell clients and friends that they can advertise their Facebook pages by inviting people to text to join a Facebook fan page.

And, the best news? It’s free. Normal text messaging rates from the user’s phone company still apply but for you, it’s no cost. Also, the person signing up needs to have Facebook Mobile activated on their Facebook account or be willing to activate it to do this.

So, how do you setup the SMS to “Like” your fan page?
First, you need to have a few things to get started:

  1. In order to have this functionality, your Facebook page must have at least 25 fans. This was recently changed from the 100 fan requirement.
  2. You also need your own custom URL on Facebook. Again, you will need to have 25 or more fans to obtain this, but it’s easy to set up once you reach this level. Simply go to: http://www.facebook.com/username/ and follow the directions to create your fan page custom URL.

Once finished you can promote your fan page by printing or announcing the following:

“Like” our company by SMS’ing!
Send a text to: fan YourPageName to 32665 (FBOOK) to join our Facebook page today.
(Be sure to replace “YourPageName” with your own Facebook page name.)

Want to see what we mean? Try it out! Send the following text message to 32665 to join the October 17 Media page through SMS:
fan October17Media

So, the answer is YES. YES! You can SMS (text message) to “like” a Facebook fan page!

The iPad Arrives!

Friday, May 28th, 2010

ipad-accessories The iPad arrives in Canada and around the world today – is your website designed to work on it? Not only should you be considering how your website looks on standard internet browsers and smart phones, you now also need to think about how good it looks on the iPad.

If your website has been designed with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and is on the 960 grid system then you should be good to go! (Ask your webmaster if you don’t know the answer.) iPads will show your website in landscape and portrait modes so having a fluid layout (fluid means a layout that shrinks or grows according to the browser size but with a minimum width size) could be a really good function to have. Link Building Tips for New Websites

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

In today’s online and connected world, linking between sites on the net is fundamental (in fact, it’s what makes the world wide web a, well, web!).

This relationship is so crucial that it determines which sites we think are important and which are not. It’s kind of like how we choose who we interact and network with – simply being out there is not enough. For example, if you were looking to hire someone for your business, you wouldn’t just go out and choose random people on the street; you would ask for recommendations from people you knew first. Or if you do find a good candidate, you’d check up on references.
