Future Shop Gift Giving Guide

Posted on by Tamara Brooks

It’s that time of year again! Christmas is almost upon us – and before you start thinking it’s too early…look back to last year – were you scrambling around town on December 23rd, an hour before stores closed, looking for last minute Christmas gifts? You tell yourself every year – “I’ll never do that again!” but chances are, this December, you’ll probably end up in another mad shopping scramble, just like everyone else.

So why not make a change, and shop for that perfect gift right at home? This year, Future Shop teamed up with October 17 Media to bring tidings of comfort and joy through the Future Shop Holiday Gift Guide! This convenient, easy to use tech gift guide will give you great ideas on what to get your favorite people!

Our inspiration was to create an online catalogue like you’ve never seen before. No more crashing browsers, small text, inability to share or find the products on the actual website. It’s all here, at your fingertips!

We used slightly modified designs of the actual printed Future Shop gift guide and created a flash-based user-friendly and intuitive user experience (UX) for those looking looking to buy gifts for themselves, others or to just know about the latest tech gadgets this holiday season.

Users can easily flip the page, zoom in and click on products that link to the Future Shop website and even share these products with their friends on their Facebook page. It’s all the fun of an actual flyer (without the dirty fingers) and with the ability to hint to all your friends & family what you want this holiday season. No more guessing!

Check out the Future Shop Holiday Gift Guide today. It’s 40 pages filled with the best gift ideas this coming holiday season! You’re sure to find something for everyone, faster that you can say “Ho! Ho! Ho!”

The Inside Scoop: Getting the Most Out of Yelp for Your Business

yelp-canada-logo[an interview with Yelp Canada’s Community Manager, Crystal Henrickson]

Perhaps before 2004, to be “Yelped” was nothing to be happy about. But ever since the review company was launched, many small and medium sized businesses have received a boost because of the social networking/review site Yelp. Founded by former PayPal employees Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons, Yelp encourages users to rate and write reviews about anything and everything under the sun (though mostly they stick with local businesses like restaurants, salons, florists, etc.)

Businesses are also encouraged to maintain their own page, where they can upload photos and information, and even respond to member’s comments. Though they initially began with San Francisco, they quickly expanded into 40 other cities (including cities in Canada and the UK), and they have over 26 million page views per month.

We had a chance to chat with Crystal Henrickson at Yelp’s local Vancouver office. We wanted to get the real scoop on how any business can take advantage of Yelp’s features and give your business that “Yelp” edge.
