Vancouver-based online marketing firm teams with Canada’s largest retailer and e-tailer of consumer
electronics to create first ever online and in-store contest.

Vancouver, BC (August 7, 2009) — With the end of summer closing in, parents across Canada are preparing to send their kids back to school with carpools, teachers and new laptop computers swimming through their heads. Vancouver-based online marketing firm October 17 Media teamed with Future Shop to create an exciting online and in-store back to school contest that is making the back the back-to-school shopping experience fun.

Starting today through September 10, Canadians are invited to visit www.futureshop.ca/hunt to create a profile and participate in chances to win fantastic weekly prizes from LG, as well as the grand prize of a $10,000 LG shopping spree at Future Shop. To participate, Canadians hunt for “codes” hidden in Future Shop’s flyer, website and in-store then plug them in their profiles. The person with the most credits at the end of the contest wins the grand prize.

Electronics are always a priority on back-to-school shopping lists, so we teamed with October 17 Media who helped us to devise a creative and engaging contest that offers Canadians chances to win great prizing just in time for the school year,” said Nikki Hellyer, director of marketing at Future Shop. “In addition to the weekly prize winners, it’ll be exciting to watch the contest’s leader board to see who will take home the grand prize of the $10,000 LG shopping spree at Future Shop.

Contest codes will be plastered in a variety of locations by Future Shop. In addition to appearing in flyers and online, they will be hidden among the Future Shop’s Community Forum (www.futureshop.ca/forum), Facebook Fan Page, Twitter accounts and embedded in print materials like Future Shop credit card statements, store signage, and more.

What’s amazing about Future Shop’s back-to-school contest is it encourages customers to interact and participate with their brand online and offline,” says Tamara Brooks, co-founder of October 17 Media. “It’s an advertising campaign that rewards entrants for connecting with the brand on a variety of marketing channels, not just one. Recently, the focus by many has been on social and online marketing, not on integration with traditional distribution channels that already exist.
