WordPress has now launched the new 3.1 edition, called “Reinhardt” in honour of the jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. This edition includes several new and updated features for users, developers and readers to take advantage of (I just had fun playing around with it to write this post). Below is a list of some of the new features you will see.
- Internal Linking – allows you to search for an old post of your own or browse a list of existing content and select it for inclusion in a new post.
- Admin Bar – appears at the top of your screen and contains various links to useful admin screens when a user is logged in and visiting the site. Admin bar can be hidden by going into your personal settings and unchecking “Show Admin Bar”
- Streamlined Writing Interface – new users of WordPress will find the write screen much less cluttered than before, because options that were rarely used or required are hidden by default.
- Post Formats – This is a new way of styling or changing the presentation of posts. Now you can have videos, links, images, audios, quotes, statuses, etc. all in one place, and the best part is that they will be styled accordingly
- Network Admin – move Super Admin menus and related pages out of the regular admin and into a new Network Admin screen.
- List-type Admin Screens – this allows for sortable columns for list-type screens and better pagination.
- Exporter/Importer Overhaul – new behind the scenes stuff like adding author information, better handling for taxonomies and terms, and proper support for navigation menus.
- Custom Content Type Improvements – allows developers to generate archive pages, and have better menu and capability controls.
- Advanced Queries - allows developers to query multiple taxonomies and custom fields.
- Refreshed Blue Admin Color Scheme – puts the focus more squarely on your content.
- Security Improvements - there are a few new improvements but most notably a streamlined and improved password recovery system and additional administrator types for installations with multiple blogs.
Tip: It is important to keep to keep your WordPress updated with new software because they are always improving on security functionality and vulnerabilities. If you need help creating or upgrading your WordPress site give us a call and we will be more than happy to help you out.

Now, with just a few lines of code, publishers, bloggers and businesses can easily include a button on their site that lets readers and visitors “Share on LinkedIn”.
Do you have a blog or space on your website that you think visitors might want to share with their connections on LinkedIN? You probably do! We’re about to add it to our own blog and wanted to share the news so you can be up to date on the latest in social media.
Need help installing it? Give us a bell. It’s a quick and easy job.

Oh. Yes. We. DID.
We came up with a whole list of tips you can use to pump up your Facebook, Twitter and other social media pages like YouTube or Flickr. Implementing these ideas at the right time, right place and right market will help you get more fans and more interactions (perhaps you are marketing to women?). If this list were a candy store, it’d be called Engage – come on in, feast your eyes on the delectable treats to the right and pick & choose what suits your fancy. Samples provided (like BlogPerfume’s 27 free social media icons here)!
The mantra to remember as you ponder and peruse is quality over quantity. Especially for Facebook, avoid posting more than one quality post per day. Once you make a fan feel like they are getting “spam” from your page, they will “Unlike” your page and never come back. It is okay to post more than once per day for Twitter, but again, keep it to high quality tweets. Listening = cornerstone of using social media effectively. (more…)

With the latest release of WordPress 3.0, users have been eager to find out what’s new with their favourite blogging software. This new version (the 13th major release) promises a better and lighter user interface, more customization in terms of appearance and the much awaited joining of WordPress Multi-User and WordPress (WP 3.0 = WPMU + WP for the mathematically-inclined). Aside from bug fixes, the following new features should entice you to update your blog to the latest version immediately.
1. Multi-site capabilities – Whether you run 1 or 1,000 blogs, you can manage them using one profile. No more logging in and out of your different profiles to update your blogs. From a single menu, you can update, edit and post to different sites. Blog network managers are blasting their vuvuzelas now that their jobs have become much simpler. (more…)

In today’s online and connected world, linking between sites on the net is fundamental (in fact, it’s what makes the world wide web a, well, web!).
This relationship is so crucial that it determines which sites we think are important and which are not. It’s kind of like how we choose who we interact and network with – simply being out there is not enough. For example, if you were looking to hire someone for your business, you wouldn’t just go out and choose random people on the street; you would ask for recommendations from people you knew first. Or if you do find a good candidate, you’d check up on references.
