October 17 and Future Shop team and bring Canadians chance to score big in “Crash the Crease”
Future Shop nets their first online game for customers before the hockey playoffs
Vancouver, BC (March 29, 2010) — Another fun-filled hockey season is coming to a close and Future Shop and October 17 Media have teamed up again to create a brand new interactive hockey game for all the fans just before the playoffs start. This year’s exciting web campaign is contest-driven and called Sony’s “Crash the Crease.” It runs now until April 29, 2010, and fans can take part in the action by visiting www.futureshop.ca/crashthecrease.
Piggybacking on Canada’s hockey pride and the excitement of the upcoming hockey playoffs, Future Shop decided to create this contest around scoring the winning goal.
“Future Shop knows Canadians love hockey and based on the tremendous success of last year’s Build Your Pad hockey-themed campaign, we had to create something new and engaging,” said Nikki Hellyer, Director of Marketing, Future Shop. “We called on October 17 Media to help us create Crash the Crease, the first time Future Shop’s created an online game for our customers to win great prizes and enjoy while watching hockey playoffs.
Canadian participants can accumulate ‘Tournament Plays’ by redeeming codes found on Future Shop’s various marketing vehicles, including Twitter, Facebook, flyer, Futureshop.ca, the Future Shop Community forum, in-store, e-newsletter and by referring a friend to play the game. Each code redeemed and played results in an extra chance to win the weekly prize of a Sony 46” LCD 120Hz HDTV. Also, by signing up for a free account, players are entered for a chance to win the grand prize of a Sony 46″ LCD 240Hz HDTV and blu-ray home theatre package including ConnectPro ‘Essential’ installation and video calibration service.
“This isn’t your typical interactive game” says Tamara Brooks, co-owner at October 17 Media. “We wanted to create something that matched Future Shop’s cutting edge brand, so we conceived a game that is technically challenging and mimics the popular iPhone interface.” In Crash the Crease, the entire rink moves, compared to more conventional games in which just the puck or player would move.
“The marketing world is changing quickly and we know social media is one of the best ways to keep ahead of the curve,” said Allen Chen, Sr. Manager of Customer Insight and Loyalty, Future Shop. “We’re happy with the structure of this innovative game, as it truly embraces social media, while still utilizing our traditional advertising methods.”
Keep your eyes open for puck codes, your skates laced up and get ready to Crash the Crease as the competition is going to be fierce.
