The iPad arrives in Canada and around the world today – is your website designed to work on it? Not only should you be considering how your website looks on standard internet browsers and smart phones, you now also need to think about how good it looks on the iPad.
If your website has been designed with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and is on the 960 grid system then you should be good to go! (Ask your webmaster if you don’t know the answer.) iPads will show your website in landscape and portrait modes so having a fluid layout (fluid means a layout that shrinks or grows according to the browser size but with a minimum width size) could be a really good function to have. Of course, iPad visitors will be able to pinch and zoom around your site but it’s always nice to accommodate a visitor and make the visit as nice as possible.
Also, iPads don’t support flash, so that funky flash banner, intro or entirely based flash website that you have? Not viewable – time to start thinking about an alternative! iPads likely won’t support flash anytime soon so if you’ve been considering a website redesign, now’s the time to invest in an flash-less site.
Lastly, test, test, test… test all mediums that display websites! What does your site look like on iPad, iPhone, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox – try to get your site looking good on all platforms! It’s work, but worth the effort.
